The purpose of this degree is to enable the church or Christian school musician to obtain advanced training in choral conducting, voice production, church music administration and philosophy, church music literature, and Bible content. The student is thoroughly grounded and trained in a Christian philosophy of music, which balances academic proficiency with spiritual perception. The combination of music and Bible courses prepares the student with the broad education necessary to function effectively as a music minister or Christian school music instructor.

The Master of Church Music degree can be completed in two summers of five sessions each. Three music sessions are offered each summer. Bible requirements may be met by attending summer sessions or one-week modules offered January, May, and August or through distance learning (9 credits). This format allows maximum flexibility to the active church musician. All work for the M.C.M. degree must be completed within seven consecutive years.
See General Admission Requirements. Students are not required to have majored in music on the undergraduate level.
Up to three credit hours of work completed prior to beginning the M.C.M. program will be considered for transfer.
A Master of Church Music student is required to maintain a 3.00 grade point average (based on a 4.00 scale) while completing his seminary studies. A student may not consider himself a candidate for an advanced degree until all undergraduate deficiencies have been removed and he has completed at least one full semester (a minimum of nine hours with a 3.00 grade point average) as a student at PTS.
The Master of Church Music degree is conferred on students who satisfactorily complete the course of study outlined in the catalog and the following requirements.
All graduation requirements must be completed prior to participation in convocation. If a student has completed the graduation requirements and is on campus, he must participate in convocation.
